A preventative approach and knowing how to proactively address problems in the early days of adoption can significantly reduce the likelihood of long term issues developing when your Romanian Rescue dogs first come home.
In this course I am excited to share with you information that will help your new arrival transition as smoothly as possible into their new life with you, with as minimal stress as possible for you all. Along with solutions to some of the most common problems I know come up for new adopters of Romanian dogs, there is lots of information on how to get things right from the get go, so those problems, that can cause stress, frustration and feelings of overwhelm, don't arise.
You will also find lots of proactive exercises that can prevent the development of other common challenges that I know have the potential to surface as your new arrival settles into the exciting world of being a part of your family.
Sarah Fishers ACE Free Work is a cornerstone activity that can be hugely beneficial for fearful, socially shy, and overreactive dogs. Free work can also be something that can help noise sensitive dogs, and dogs who tend to bark excessively at every tiny sound.
Once ACE Free Work is established as an activity, it can be used in a variety of ways to help fearful, nervous and anxious dogs grow in confidence and resilience. Not only can it help nervous dogs to move forward with the struggles they have, but it can also have a hugely positive impact on how they feel in general, helping to reduce daily baseline stress levels.
In this workshop we will introduce you to the concept of Grid Walking and Grid Training, discuss the benefits and explain how it can be applied to some example situations.
The workshop will explain what exactly Grid Walking is and why it has been found to be so beneficial, especially for many Romanian & overseas rescue dogs who often find the world outside to be overwhelming.
Grid Walking can help build confidence and resilience as well as help our dogs to habituate to this strange world around them, and habituation is where they can learn to become unbothered by stuff and things.
Many adopters of Romanian and overseas rescue dogs struggle with this behaviour of 'planting' on walks and point blank refusing to move in any direction.
During this workshop I will aim to provide you with a deep dive into the 'Rommie Plant' behaviour.
